1. Shared our nature poems from our Monteverde field trip.
2. Checked and discussed our third journal entries from our choice read unit.
3. Wrote a story using 15 out of the 16 vocabulary words as our vocabulary quiz.
4. During the quiz, Miss Kerry conferenced with each of us about our choice read book and reading log.

Work for Monteverde:
Choice Read work:
1. They need to continue reading their choice read books and must fill out their logs every time they read (a goal would be to have them read 10-20 minutes each day).
2. They have their 3rd choice read journal entry due Friday, June 14th.3. They will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday, June 14th so they can study for that (I told them to bring their words.)

Nature Poetry:
1. Walk around in a contained area and pick a plant/flower/tree/etc. that you feel connected to.
2. Draw the plant/flower/tree or a part of it.
3. Write a list of descriptive words that describe the plant/flower/tree.
4. Write a list of action words or verbs that could connect to the plant/flower/tree (ex: swaying in the breeze, wilting, feeding the butterflies, etc.)
5. Using the drawing and the words as your motivation, create a short poem.

  • one station where we wrote a descriptive passage from the book and drew a picture of it
  • one station where we created a character chart of everyone we have met thus far and used quotes from the book to describe each of them

1. Formed a circle with the chair and read chapter 6 aloud together.
2. Filled out 5 small slips of paper describing the 5 most important events from the chapter and marking them in the book.
3. Started reading chapter 7 together.

  • finish reading chapter 7
  • mark the 5 most important events in chapter 7 using the little paper squares to describe the event and place it in the correct spot in the book (like a bookmark)

1. Worked on our sentence construction activity and made our sentences even more concise.
2. Created a Venn Diagram based on our water samples taken from the Brasilito and Conchal estuaries.
3. Discussed how to write a Compare/Contrast essay:
1. Introduction - introducing your topic and the two things you will be comparing/contrasting
2. Differences - describing the differences between the two estuaries
3. Similarities - describing the similarities between the two estuaries
4. Conclusion - summarizing your essay and adding a little bit of new information at the end for your reader
Homework:
We will NOT HAVE CLASS ON WEDNESDAY because it is a half day, so please finish the following for Friday:

Group 2 - how do peers affect our social choices and language development? Group 3 - how do forms of media - tv, movies, and internet - affect our social choices and language development?
2. Passed out and started our new novel The Music of the Dolphins.

Today in Language Arts we:
1. Whole Group Activity and Discussion: Touch your nose, eye, writing hand, big toe. How did you know how to do this? When did you learn this? Who taught you this?
2. Individual Journal Activity: make a T-chart in your journal with the following categories;
- What are social norms? Make a list of what you cannot do in public because it is not a social norm, such as “pick your nose”:
- What are considered proper manners in today's society? Make a list of things you are supposed to do because it is a social norm, or considered proper manners in today's society, such as saying “please and thank you”.
3. Pair Discussion Activity – think, pair, share and then present your partner's answer.
What are some cultural norms that are different for everyone sitting at your table? Discuss some cultural customs or traditions that you do in your family (either celebrating holidays, at dinner time or bedtime each night, on vacation, etc.).
